The
penis snake was recently discovered when workers in the Amazon were draining a portion of the Madeira River
to make way for construction of a dam. Once you take a gander at this phallic
looking creature you'll have no doubt as to why this is called the penis snake
because it resembles a penis more than it does anything else!
This
purple in hue creature isn't actually a snake, but a reptile that's a species of
caecilian, according to the Creature
Feature. This limbless amphibian and a few of its relatives were found at the
bottom of the drained river section and since then they've been causing quite a
stir due to their bizarre, yet manly appearance!
According
to Cool Earth, not much is known about
the penis snake just that is uses a sense of smell to get around as it has very
poor eyesight. The creature doesn't have lungs, it is thought that it breaths
through the skin. Biologist Julian Tapen identified the find as Atretochoana
eiselti, according to Creature Feature.
The
snake grows to 30 inches long and as you can see on the video the creature
really resembles the part of the male anatomy that it was named after, From the
look of the head of this creature and the texture of its body, there is no
mistaking this snake when you see it!
