MEET Wanda, Ringo and Judge Mental, a trio of combat robots, any one of which could win the coveted title of Robowars national champion.
The robots, built and operated by Booval duo Miles Blow and Jules Pitts, will take on rivals from across Australia at a competition in Ipswich next month.
The Australian Robowars Nationals will be held at the Ipswich Art Gallery from September 29 to October 1.
Miles and Jules have begun preparations for the big event and are looking forward to catching up with fellow Robowars enthusiasts.
"Everyone makes changes and improvements to their robots, and of course you have to make a lot of repairs," Jules said.
"I always have to update mine to try and stay ahead of other robots and fix any problems."
Jules, one of the few women who competes in Robowars, said she loved the sport because it offered her a chance to learn something new and let off steam.
"There are so many different bots. There's wedgers, spinners and thwack-bots," she said.
"Wanda is a thwack-bot with a sort of mace, which I love because I'm not the best at driving."
Miles said he and Jules enjoyed re-using materials and learning about engineering.
"It's great. Some people use special titanium but we use motors from drills we find, car parts, and Jules has used a wok and even lace on hers," he said.
"Anyone can win on the day."
Queensland Robotics Sports Club treasurer Steven Martin said dozens of competitors from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland would attend.
